Obituary of Sister Bernice Rosalie Seymour
Sister Bernice Seymour scsl (Sister Anne Louise) of Calgary passed away peacefully at St. John’s Care Home on Friday, July 8, 2005 at the age of 88 years.
Sister Bernice was born on December 14, 1916 in Tolley, North Dakota and as a young child her family moved to a homestead near Stone, SK. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in 1939 and served as a classroom Teacher and Catechist for over 40 years in many communities in Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. Following her remarkable years as a Teacher Bernice joined her sister Mary Lou in caring for their mother. Bernice’s last appointment was to Oliver, BC where she helped with ministry to the Aboriginal community and visited the sick at home and in hospital. In 2000 she moved to St. John’s Care Home in Calgary where her deep concern for others continued in her letter writing, knitting, and prayer for the sick. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and five brothers and will be missed by her sister Mary Lou and her brother Owen of Coquitlam, B.C., numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and the members of her religious community. Sister Bernice will be remembered for her love for children, her deep faith, compassion, gentleness and unfailing kindness.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. John’s Convent (409 – 10A Street N.W.) on Sunday, July 10, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Monday, July 11, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev.
