Obituary of Tammy Lee Berglund-Jaster

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tammy at home on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, after a courageous fight with a long illness. Her memory will be cherished by her parents Linda and Don Craig of Calgary and Ken and Fran Berglund of Regina, SK; her sister and brother-in-law Tara and Lloyd Kortbeek; her niece Isabella Kortbeek; her nephew Maxwell Kortbeek; her grandmother Isobel Boesch; her aunt and friend Robin Waldo, all of Calgary; as well as her beloved cats, Bear, Franklin, Jag, and Tiger. Tammy was predeceased by her grandparents Sinclair and Irene Berglund of Kennedy, SK; her grandfather Merle Boesch of Calgary; her uncle Ross Waldo of Calgary; and her loyal and faithful companion of fifteen years, “Moose” who passed away peacefully one week before Tammy. Tammy was born in Regina, SK on December 8, 1972. She was an active, bright youngster who loved animals, her friends and travelling. Fortunately her sense of adventure took her around the world before her very serious health problems began. Tammy experienced Communist Russia, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Costa Rica, and a drive up to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar. This past January, Tammy fulfilled a life-long dream and swam with the dolphins in Mexico. She moved to Calgary with her family in 1985. She started skiing with new classmates from Grade 8. Tammy loved skiing and was soon able to keep up with her friends. Valentine’s Day weekend in February was a wonderful annual family get-away. Don’s barbershop quartet BRASS entertained at Silver Star and Tammy, friends and family enjoyed a weekend of skiing until Tammy’s health prevented her from skiing. Tammy graduated from Alternative High School and began studies at Mount Royal College. When Tammy’s health challenges prevented her from attending school, her love of learning continued through correspondence courses. The family wants to express our love, gratitude and thanks to Tammy’s caregivers, Jude Allen, Nella Martins and Michael Denis. Your exceptional care and friendship was phenomenal. Tammy loved you. We would also like to thank the wonderful doctors who worked so tirelessly to find adequate pain control for her and gave Tammy hope – Dr. William Grisdale, Dr. Ted Braun and most of all, Dr. Beverly Tompkins who became Tammy’s doctor in 1990. Tammy loved you Dr. Bev and our family will be eternally grateful for the exceptional care and friendship you gave her. A special thank you also to Cheryl – “Nurse extraordinaire”.
