Obituary of William Edgar Garrett
William (Bill) Edgar Garrett of Calgary passed away peacefully on June 11, 2005 at the age of 74 years.
Bill was born in Pennant, SK, on September 26, 1930, the oldest of seven boys who worked hard on the family farm. He left the farm to work on the railway in Weyburn, SK and then spent a short time in BC, returning to the prairies to start his long career in the oil and pipeline industry. Bill worked for Mobil Oil for eleven and one half years until starting his own business, Garrett Oilfield Service. While in Swift Current, SK he was a member of the Masonic Order and WA WA Shrine Club (Clown Unit). After living in Duncan, BC for four years, the family relocated to Calgary where Bill worked for Swift Current Construction and then as an oilfield consultant which enabled him to travel to countries abroad. He loved playing crib, tile rummy, reading, dancing, and music; however his first love was his family. Bill was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by the love of his life and best friend Mabel and their five daughters and four sons-in-law, Sharlene and Glen Stephenson, Barbara and Michael Gergel, Colleen Garrett, Beverly and Warren Kee, Susan and Bruce Ziprick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Brenda Garrett and Kelly and Margaret Garrett; fifteen grandchildren, Coby, Jessica, Katie and Douglas Stephenson, Jamie (Brad) Safnuk, Jodie (Kevin) Toms, Steven Garrett, Ashley and Tessa Gergel, Matthew, Jeremy and Lindsey Kee, Adjil, Arlen and Addie Ziprick; and three great-grandchildren, Virginia Stephenson, Tavin and Silas Bousfield. He is also survived by three brothers and seven sisters-in law, Jack and Joyce Garrett, Dick and Jan Garrett, Mac and Shirley Garrett, Betty Garrett, Fran Garrett, Geraldine Ellis and Shirley Ellis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his infant son James Emery; parents Howard and Christina Garrett; in-laws Earl and Isabella Ellis; brothers Bob, Harold, and Don and brothers-in-law Norman Ellis and Ray Ellis.
