Obituary of Helen Susan Sherwood
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and special friend “Helen Ellen Susan MacLellan Laird Halbert Tuson Sherwood!” on Monday, June 27, 2005 at the age of 87 years.
Helen was born in Trochu AB on August 1, 1917, the eighth child of Scottish Coal miner William and his wife Mary Brown Halbert. She had a very wonderful home life filled with fiddle music, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles and cousins from Scotland. Helen and Roger Tuson married in 1936 and had five children together. They homesteaded in the Peace River Country for two years and then returned to Trochu. After World War II when Roger returned to Canada they moved to Calgary with three children. Calgary was home from then on. Helen held jobs in drugstores for many years and raised four children with strength and determination. She moved on to direct sales by becoming one of the first Tupperware sales persons in Calgary. Helen was very community minded and helped to found the Christine Miekle School and she volunteered at St. Matthews Church in many capacities with love and dedication for the rest of her life.
Helen will be remembered by her children, Cathy Wilson (Bob), Darlene Antaya (Art), George Tuson, Maggie Montgomery, Donna Tuson (daughter-in-law), Heather Burniston (Bob); a brother Byron Halbert; grandchildren, Susan Durtnall (Simon), Toni Wilson (Bruce), Stacey Medd (Brian), Jennifer Wilson (Brent), Marke Antaya (Katie), Catherine Mary Antaya (Brian), Marion Tuson, Graham Tuson, Jamie Tuson (Glenda), Glenn Tuson (Wanda-Lee), Michelle Burniston, Karen MacKeen, Bruce MacKeen; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Riley Medd, Lauren Marshall, Quintin, Keenan, Courtney, Logan, and Camdyn Antaya, Cooper Tuson, Devon and Cauy Tuson, Jesse and Seanna-Lee Tuson, Kieran and Skylar Burniston and children of Bruce MacKeen.
