Giovina Torriero

Obituary of Giovina Torriero

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Giovina Torriero, on Thursday, June 23, 2005, after a very courageous battle with cancer at the age of 85 years. Giovina passed away peacefully with dignity and grace surrounded by her loving family. Giovina was born in Lanciano, Italy on March 16, 1920. Giovina was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was greatly respected, admired and loved by all who knew her. Profoundly generous she gave unselfishly of herself to others expecting nothing in return. Her legacy of service to others is a tribute to her life. She will be lovingly remembered as a matriarch and a guide by family members. We will remember her generous, uncomplaining spirit and lifelong example of giving. She took much pride in her home and gardening and loved to feed the birds in the yard. She loved to tell stories about the old days in Italy and loved to attend Sunday Mass. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Giovina will be cherished and missed beyond compare by all who had the privilege to be a part of her life. Giovina is survived by her nine children, Michele and Tettina Torriero, Maria and Guerino Sorrentino, Assunta and Pietro Rapino, Paul and Lina Torriero, Nick Torriero, Rita and Vince Dicampli, Carmine and Mary Torriero, Joe and Rosemary Torriero, Vando and Elsie Torriero; nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren. Giovina was predeceased by her son Giuseppe in 1955 and by her husband Domenico Torriero in 2002. “Ogni Momento Trascorso Insieme” E’ Stata Una Grande Gioia, Il Tuo Ricordo Restera’ Nei Nostri Cuori Per Sempre.
