Obituary of Norah Gwendoline Davis

Betts Davis passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2005 at the age of 88 years. Betts was born on November 1, 1916 in Bournemouth, England. She grew up close to her beloved sea in Southampton. Betts served in the British Armed Forces from 1939 -1942. She married Murray Davis, a Canadian soldier, and came to Canada as a war bride. She arrived in Halifax, NS on the Queen Mary on September 19, 1946. Betts moved with her family to Pincher Creek, AB, where she served as the Town Librarian for many years. She moved to Calgary in 1966 and was employed as the Assistant Librarian at Bishop Grandin High School until her retirement in 1981. Betts had a wonderfully unique sense of humour and perspective on the world. She was an avid reader, loved theatre and engaged in political discussion whenever the opportunity was presented. Dinner with Betts was always an eclectic experience. Betts leaves four daughters, Gail Davis, Sherry Emes (Barry), Mandy Davis, and Cass Lewis; and six grandchildren, Leishan Keller (Monty), Jarett Parsons, Aaron Emes (Amreen), Kerry Emes, Trevor Langley, and Kaylee Parsons; as well as four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Nevan Keller, Aamir and Amina Emes. A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday. June 14, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
