Vivian Allan

Obituary of Vivian Gertrude Allan

Vivian Allan, our vibrant, courageous, and fun-loving mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2005 and is reunited with her loving husband Michael. Vivian was born and raised in Victoria, BC. She took her Nurse’s training at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and served in the Second World War as Nursing Sister. She married Michael in 1946 and lived a rewarding and successful life raising her family. She was involved in many community and sports activities including the I.O.D.E., Girl Guides, Engineer Wives, badminton, golf and she played an excellent game of bridge. Throughout their life they had the opportunity to live in numerous parts of Canada; Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Regina, and Calgary. Vivian always talked with pride of the good friends and the laughter that they shared with those people over the years. Her smile was contagious and she had an uncanny way of making people feel loved. She was always there when a hug was needed. Vivian and Michael returned to Victoria in 1981 and enjoyed their retirement, reminiscing with friends, travelling internationally and in their little camper, and spending time with their family which was always a priority. They bought a beautiful place overlooking the ocean and had many peaceful years enjoying the view and watching the eagles. Vivian moved to Calgary in 2001 to be closer to family. We will miss her cheerful smile but it was time for her to go. “We love you Mum.” Vivian is survived by her children and their spouses, Sheila and Bob Cullen of Calgary, David and Marta of Blaine, WA, Susan and Bert Perkins of North Carolina, and Rene and Rich Engel of Calgary; as well as her grandchildren, Tyne and Diane Cullen, Stephen and Michael Allan, Stephanie and Kieran Perkins, and Kathleen and David Engel; and her sisters-in-law Pamela Allan of Edmonton, AB and Marion Sarkissian of Naniamo, BC. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Michael of forty-seven years; and her brother Clifford Denham.
