Obituary of Red Crow

Kelly Lauren Red Crow was called home, at the age of 28 years to be with our Lord on Friday, June 3, 2005 after a brief illness, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. Kelly leaves to mourn his loving wife Jennie who never left his side while he was in the hospital and his two daughters, Caitlyn and Lauryn, who were his pride and joy. Kelly will be sadly missed by his mother and father Harvina and Gary; brothers, Marlin (Dee Dee) and Rambert; sister in law Crystal Weasel Child; adopted brothers and sisters, Shane Water Chief, Cory Giroux, Sue Ayoungman, and Valerie Red Crow; nephews, Kyle, Theoren, Zared, Chasen, Hayden, and Heston; nieces, Kyla, Thea, Virginia, Jenna, Jaice, and Malerie. Kelly is also survived by his in-laws, Verna and Harley, Travis (Bobbi), Dori (Bob), Harley (Leanne), Roca, and Andy; nieces and nephews, Shaylin, Disa, Wyatt, Owen, Adolphus, Callie Paige, Cara, Alyssa, Lyrical, Drew, Tasia, and Taryn; paternal grandparents Virginia and Allen Medicine Traveller; aunts and uncles, Rita, Allen (Jennifer), Gordon (Linda), Myrna (Morris), Brenda (Cameron), Reynold, Letty, and Sharon; maternal grandfather Harvey Peace Maker (Catherine); Aunt and uncle, Elizabeth (George), Harvey Jr. (Diane), Eric, and Billy. Kelly was predeceased by his brother Jason (Baby Jay) Red Crow; grandmother Lorraine Peace Maker; great-grandparents, Teddy and Jane Yellow Fly and May and Peter Calf; aunt Anita Peace Maker; uncles, Merlin Peace Maker, Terrold Black, Amil Red Crow, and Malcolm Sitting Eagle; and nephew Francis Weasel Child. Kelly will also be missed by his extended family including relatives from the Medicine Traveller, Peace Maker, Yellow Fly, Calf, Weasel Child, and Youngman families; and Grandpa Donald McMaster. Kelly made his Cursillo on May 31 – June 3, 2001; his theme song was “Seek the Lord.” He also worked in the April 2005 Cursillo and the theme song was “Body and Blood of Jesus.” Kelly had a kind heart and always tried to help anyone who was down on their luck; his door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay or to share a hot meal. His love of life, his sense of humour, his dancing, his karaoke singing, and his storytelling will always be remembered. His love for his “three chicks” (Jen, Caity Cane and Shorty) was evident to anyone who met him. He was a loving husband, father and son and a loyal friend to “The Boys.” Kelly loved sports and was an accomplished athlete who loved Fastball and was a proud member of the Siksika Rebels (Canadian Native Fastball Champions in 1999) and the Siksika Nites (a team he helped create) but also participated in hockey, playing with the Siksika Junior B Braves. In 1991 Kelly attended LeBret Residential School in Saskatchewan in order to play hockey with the LeBret Eagles. In 1992 Kelly enrolled in the Johansen Brothers Boy Steer Riding School and that summer went on to win the event at the Annual Wilson Rodeo and at the Bassano Rodeo. Kelly was a good pool player, entering and winning several tournaments, and also boxed in Minnesota, winning a medal in his weight class. Kelly’s wife and parents would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses from Unit 24 ICU at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Eileen McNeill, Deacon Richard Nibogie, Rev. Margaret Water Chief, Darryl McDonald and the Native Liaison Worker. We would also like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Siksika Nation Chief and Council, Housing, Family Services, Band Transfer Fundraising Group, and extended family and friends who supported us with your prayers and monetary contributions. Wake Service will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
