Obituary of Mary Welch

Mary Welch (nee Labash), beloved wife of Mr. James W. Welch of Crystal Springs, SK, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the age of 97 years. Mary was born on February 16, 1908 at the family farm near Lestock, SK. She spent her childhood there and attended Normal School in Saskatoon. At the age of seventeen, Mary moved to Crystal Springs to take charge of the school and teach all grades, one through eight. While there she met and married Jim Welch and there they raised their five children. For the past thirty years, Mary has made Calgary her home. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice and Gisele of Cornwall, ON, Herb and Amy of Las Vegas, NV, and Jack and Judy of Calgary; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean and Wilf Haas of Calgary and Myrtle of Ottawa, ON; as well as thirteen grandchildren, Lee Ann Welch, Mary Lynn Chenard (Fitzroy Gayle), Paul (Janet) Chenard, Cindy Welch, Jennifer (Steve) Zigomanis, Jim (Maru) Welch), Troy (Debra) Welch, Laura (Brent) Diemert, David Hass, Brian Haas, Wally (Darlene) Haas, Royce (Melanie) Welch, and Elena (Rob) Aitken; and twelve great-grandchildren, Angela, Michelle, Terry, Sam, Stephen, Marc, Allison, Ryan, Cole, Sydney, Lincoln, and Eva. She was predeceased by her husband Jim; brothers, Martin, John, Joseph, Mike, and George; and sisters, Julia and Anna. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E.) on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Henry Rosenbaum SAC, Presider.
