Obituary of John Frank Stevulak

John Frank Stevulak, beloved husband of Elsie, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the age of 79 years. John was born in Liesek, Czechoslovakia on August 27, 1925, and immigrated to Canada in 1939 with his mother Veronica and sister Mary to join his father Martin who was working in the mine in the Crowsnest Pass. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944, and attained the rank of Lance Corporal. Following his honourable discharge, John returned to the Crowsnest Pass to work in Greenhill Mine. Later he attended University of BC, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science, Geology major. After twenty-five years of service with Imperial Oil, John joined Dome Petroleum and ended his career by forming Stevulak Exploration Consultants. He was a lifetime member of APEGGA, a member of the 4th degree of Knights of Columbus Father Doucet Assembly #0006, an honourary member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Father Cahill Council #8471 and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Branch #285. Prior to failing health, John was active in the church and community. He loved life, his family and sports, especially golf. He appreciated people, remembered each by name, and was thankful to be a Canadian. We will dearly miss his positive outlook which shone through constantly. John is lovingly remembered by his wife Elsie (nee Habdas), daughter Cathy and her husband Leonard Hill (Halifax, NS), son Michael, his wife Dana and their children Robert and Marianne (Victoria, BC), sister Mary and her husband Stan Comfort (Parksville, BC), brother Milan and his wife Jacquie (Saltspring Island, BC), loved relatives, neighbours from Haysboro and Braeside, and special friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monday June 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in “Field of Honour” at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
