Obituary of Carlo Albert DiBlasio

Carlo Albert DiBlasio of Calgary passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the age of 91 years. Carlo was born on July 9, 1913 in Sessano del Molise, Italy. He came to Canada in 1952, settling in Pincher Station and Cowley for a short time before moving to Blairmore, AB, where he resided for seventeen years working for the Canadian Pacific Railway. With his wife, he also owned and operated DiBlasio Confectionary Store until relocating to Calgary in 1968. He then worked for Calgary Concrete as a Form Setter with his brother-in-law John Evangelista. He operated his own grocery business, C & M Food Market, in Three Hills, AB, with his wife and son Mike. Carlo was a master craftsman, spending many a hour working in his workshop creating beautiful hand-carved spoons, forks, and furniture which he lovingly shared with many. You could find Carlo by the riverside collecting his treasured willow which he would handcraft into beautiful baskets. Carlo was an avid gardener who looked forward to spring when he could tend to his beloved garden, especially his tomatoes. Carlo’s love was sharing himself with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. He was a pillar of strength and support; always there for everyone. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. Carlo will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters and son-in-law, Dina Nastasi, and Doni and Lawrence Barnett, all of Calgary; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Wayne) Woodward, Lori (Cory) Filipuzzi, Katherine (Jim) Zabaneh, and Lawrence Barnett Jr., all of Calgary; his three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dylan Woodward, and Olivia Filipuzzi; two sisters and one brother, all of Toronto, ON; one sister in Italy, and one sister in Australia. Carlo was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Santina; his son Michael; and son-in-law Buster Nastasi. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Monday, May 30, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
