Obituary of Steve Walsh

With great sadness we announce the sudden and heart-breaking deaths of our beloved son Steve, age 28, and our beautiful, loving, perfect grandson Jordan (Jordi) aged 4 ¢ years. Steve was born at the Calgary General Hospital on February 27, 1977, on the same Maternity Ward as his mom, Auntie Gail and his grandmother, Granny Mason. Steve’s father, Ed (Eddy to Steve and his brother, Shawn) was a proud member of the Canadian Forces for twenty-six years and our family delighted in many unforgettable experiences from coast to coast. In Summerside, PEI, Shawn, his brother, best-friend and confidant was born. In Petawawa, ON, a new family member Tracker (a beagle) joined the family on frequent wild blueberry harvests, with Tracker eating the most. In Moose Jaw, SK, (home of the Snowbirds), the boys spent many hours perfecting the art of gopher snaring with limited success (perhaps two). At the family’s last military posting in Comox, BC, Steve and Shawn were able to appreciate outdoor activities with Grandpa and Granny Mason, who reside in Parksville, BC. We had many mountain excursions and hockey games, in Nelson BC; after which the family settled permanently in Parksville, BC. Steve’s outdoor pursuits fuelled his drive to work in the sports industry – sales. Steve held sport marketing jobs with the Parksville Generals Hockey Club, Whistler Adventures, the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Grizzlies, and most recently, initiating athlete sponsorships. Invited by the world’s top mountaineer, Ed Viesturs, Steve was getting in shape (10 lbs less so far) to summit Mount Rainer. Family and friends were well acquainted with his characteristic humour and we have appreciated hearing those comical stories and quotes as friends and family contact us. Lovingly, Steve would most like to be remembered as a great father for Jordi (who adored him). Steve knew his most precious commodity in his life was time with his son Jordi, who came before anything. Steve will be dearly missed by his parents Ed and Maureen; his brother and best-friend Shawn; Jordi’s mom Ang; grandparents Gene and Doreen Mason; Auntie Gail and Uncle Jim Hunter; cousins Chris and Miles (Jordi’s hockey team); loving companion Tanya; and numerous family members in British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. To commemorate Steve and Jordi’s love of steam engines, we will place a bench near the rails at Heritage Park, where family and friends can watch the big black engine #2024 go by. If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made directly to The Memorial Bench Program, c/o Heritage Park, 1900 Heritage Drive SE, Calgary, AB T2V 2X3 Telephone (403)268-8500. The family wishes to thank all of those who attended at the accident and the hospital.
