Obituary of Catherine Babiuk

It is with great sadness that we announce that Catherine Babiuk, loving and devoted mother, passed peacefully into the hands of Jesus, at Rosedale Hospice, on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the age of 82 years with her daughter present. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike and is survived by her daughter, Brenda Barclay. Catherine was born and raised on a homestead farm near Balgonie, SK and was the oldest daughter of six children. Catherine worked as a housekeeper in the area to help provide extra income for the family. In 1942, she moved to Saskatoon and then to Regina. She met and married her husband in 1944, and they moved to Hamilton where she worked in a fruit canning factory. The couple decided to seek their future in Alberta, and in 1949 they moved to Lethbridge, AB where Catherine was a popular waitress at a local restaurant. When they moved to Calgary, in 1952, where they finally had a home of their own, and Catherine was able indulge in her love of gardening. She enjoyed the challenge of growing flowers and vegetables in the ever changing Calgary climate. Catherine took great pride in her home and great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and crafts and was always providing friends with surprise gifts of things she had made. In 1954, she gave birth to the couple’s only child, a daughter. Everyone who met Catherine were captured by her engaging smile which drew people to her. Known for her kindness, consideration and quiet wit, Catherine will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, May 19, 2005 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway’s ‘Park Memorial Chapel’ (5008 Elbow Drive SW), on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 10:00 am with Chaplain Carol Barwick officiating. Catherine had great faith which carried her through the many trials in her life. After a difficult hospitalization in the Acute Care Unit at Rockyview Hospital, Catherine was moved to Rosedale Hospice where she received a safe, caring and compassionate environment in which to journey from this world. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rosedale Hospice for their gentle and conscientious care.
