Obituary of John Macdonald Beddome

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of John Beddome on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 after a brief and courageous struggle with cancer at the age of 74 years. Besides his loving wife Barbara, John leaves his daughter Maureen Ann (Timothy) Cooney; grandchildren, Sean and Carleen; and son David Ross Beddome and his partner Erin Lennox. He will also be remembered by two sisters, Anne Godfrey of Guelph, ON and Jean (David) Clarke of Barbados, West Indies. John was born in Vernon, BC and received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at the University of BC in 1952. Between 1952 and 1971, he held various positions with Gulf Oil Canada and affiliates from Field Production Engineer to Manager, Gas Engineering and Marketing to Manager of Services, Supply and Transportation. John joined Dome Petroleum in 1971 where he also held various positions and was, from 1983 to 1988, President and C.O.O. He was President and C.E.O. of Polar Gas Joint Venture from 1989 to 1992 and President and C.E.O. of Alberta Natural Gas from 1992 to 1995. Over the years John also held various Directorships which included Director and Non-Executive Chairman of TransCanada Pipeline, Director of Panarctic Oils, Director of Dome Petroleum, Western Gas Marketing, Morgan Hydrocarbons, Angus Chemical Company, Pan Canadian Petroleum Ltd, Non-Executive Chairman of Ipsco, and Director of ARC Resources. John was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, Past Director of the Board of Governors Canadian Petroleum Association, and Independent Petroleum Association, as well as a member of the Ranchmans Club, Calgary Petroleum Club and the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. He was a Founder and Director of Webber Academy.
