Obituary of David Wayne Hancock

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Hancock beloved husband to Deirdre, father to Laura and Christopher. David passed away at the Foothills Medical Center on Thursday, May 5,, 2005 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. David had the honourable designation of deputy grand knight for the Ascension Parish Knights of Columbus in which he was very committed and faithful to his duties and fellow Knights. He was a loyal volunteer for STARS Air Ambulance, the Boy Scouts of Canada as well, he was heavily involved in Christopher’s hockey throughout the last twelve years. He was devoted to his customers and job at Telus as well as to his strong Catholic faith. Besides Deirdre, Laura and Christopher, he leaves to mourn two sisters, Brenda (Fred) Lorenz, Anita (Danny) Cress, mother-in-law Carmel Byrne. He also leaves four nephews, Kevin (Iryna) Goulet, Brian (Antonella) Goulet, Danny Hancock, Philippe Cress and his niece Diane (Lory) Perizzolo. Also, in David’s life were many special Aunts, Uncles, Cousins from across Canada as well as his beloved dog Shelby and very good friends Brenda and Andy Robertson. David was predeceased by his father Wilfred in 1993, his mother Josephine in 2004, his father-in-law John Byrne in 1994, three uncles, Marvin Majocha, Tony Majocha, Johnny Hancock, his grandparents, Mary and Joseph Majocha and John and Gertrude Hancock. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Monday, May 9, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ignatius Thu Tran, and the Rev. John A. Bastigal, presiders. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scott Dowden, Dr. Martin LeBrie and all the wonderful caring staff on nursing unit 47 Palliative Care who were with David and Deirdre throughout this short journey.
