Obituary of Deane Hoffman Sharpe

Deane Huffman Sharpe of Drumheller AB passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the age of 86 years. Deane was born June 23, 1919 in Drumheller, AB to Wilkie and Anne (Asselstine) Sharpe. He married his beloved wife Elsie Richardson on September 28, 1941. He courted her while taking Agriculture Mechanics at S.A.I.T. in Calgary. He returned to the farm and raised his family in Munson, AB. Deane was a member of the Drumheller and Munson United Church and a former UFA Delegate for twenty-five years. While participating in the 4-H Grain Club, he won numerous ribbons and awards. He was also an avid sports player, enjoying both baseball and curling. A highlight in Deane’s life was to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their activities. In 1996 Deane and Elsie retired to the Keystone Towers in Drumheller. In 2004, due to failing health, Deane entered the Drumheller Continuing Care Unit. Deane is survived by Elsie, his wife of sixty-two years, a daughter Anita Adams; a son Robert and daughter-in-law Wendy; five grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Chantler, Nanci (Brian) Boechler, Glenn (Kandice) Adams, Kerry (Stacie) Sharpe, and Lisa Sharpe; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Kayla, Nicole, Kelsey, Eric, and Blaire. Deane is also survived by a twin brother Don and sister-in-law Ethel; and a sister Jeane Wood. Deane was predeceased by his parents Wilkie and Anne; four sisters, Baby Marjorie, Katherine Scharf, Shirley Bingham, and Elizabeth Campbell; as well as a brother Roderick Sharpe. Funeral Services will be held at the Knox United Church in (Drumheller, AB) on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jan Stevenson, Presider. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers and cards, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation c/o Box 4500, Drumheller, AB TOJ OYO and marked CT Scan.
