Obituary of Margaret Szabo

Margit (Margaret) Szab_ of Calgary, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away suddenly at The Renoir on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the age of 90 years. Margaret was born in Fels÷ Lakos, Slovenia on August 28, 1914. She came to Canada in 1965 with her two sons, Joe and Andy, to join her eldest son, Arpi Berdin. Margaret was a member of several Hungarian organizations. Most close to her heart was St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir. For many years she was also an enthusiastic volunteer visiting the sick and elderly in hospitals and nursing homes. Margaret brought them peace and comfort through her singing. She had a passion for gardening and flowers. When visiting her children she would always check the plants in the house or head outside to tend the garden. Although very busy with volunteering, Margaret was an award-winning baker and always ensured her family was well supplied with favourite Hungarian pastries and dishes. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law Arpi and Malvina Berdin, Joe and Katalin Szab_ and her daughter-in-law Joanne Szab_; her grandchildren and their spouses, Linda and Tom, Angie and Andy, Julie and Randy, Monica and Clinton, Lori and Jay, Cindy and Roy, Arpad Jr., Steve and Julie; and ten great-grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1963, her son Andy (Karcsi) in 1993, and grandson Vincent in 1973. Dr. Istvan Zachfalvy, Presider. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
