Obituary of Carol Lowery

Carol Lowery (nee MacGregor), beloved wife of Boyd Lowery of Calgary, passed away quietly on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the age of 71 years. Carol was born in New Glasgow, NS, the daughter of the late W.G. (Bill) and Isabel MacGregor. She attended Acadia University then transferred to McGill where she graduated in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in 1956. She began her physio career in Edmonton where she met Boyd, her husband of forty-five years. Carol was the great-great-grand-daughter of the Rev. James D. MacGregor, the first Presbyterian Minister in Pictou, NS (1786). Carol was a founding member of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church and served as an elder for over twenty years. Carol had the rare gift of being able to connect with people of all ages and walks of life. She was an unselfish, caring and compassionate person not only for her family but for many friends and acquaintances. Although she and Boyd settled in Calgary in the early 1960’s, she remained a Maritimer at heart and felt a strong need to spend time recharging at the ocean. Carol’s passions in life were her children, her grandchildren, friends, painting and her church. From an early age Carol loved to paint and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1997. Some of her paintings in the form of cards are used by the Tom Baker Psych-Social Department as a fund raiser for their “Tapestry” program. She is survived by her husband, Boyd; children, Sue (Don Colpitts) and Jane (Dr. Allan deCaen), both of Edmonton; and Robb of Victoria, BC; and grandchildren, Evan, Nigel and Mary Colpitts, and Emily, Kathleen and Genny deCaen. She is also survived by her brother Gordon MacGregor (Ann) of Toronto; sisters-in-law, Joan Rohrer, Carolyn MacGregor and Heather Rea; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Carol was predeceased by her brother Dr. Peter MacGregor. A Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church (4612 Varsity Drive N.W.) on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. Private Graveside Services will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
