Obituary of Richard Jones

Richard Octavius (Dick) Jones, beloved husband of Jean, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Dick was born in Tregaron, Wales and immigrated with his family to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan at the age of two. He was educated at Lloydminster and at Olds College and spent his life dairy farming and twenty-four years as Manager of the Lloydminster Exhibition Association. In 1992, he was inducted into their Agricultural Hall of Fame and was honoured as ‘the little Welshman’ who was expert in obtaining and utilizing the loyal commitment of volunteer workers. He also received numerous awards and recognition from the Canadian Association of Fairs throughout his career. He leaves his family the legacy of his work in the family history, his woodwork treasures of Welsh love spoon carvings, memory boxes and fretwork tables and above all, his love and caring for all of his family members. Dick was predeceased by his parents Ann and Rees Jones, brothers John, Stephen, Ifor and Dai and sisters Nancy, Margaret and Winnifred. He is survived by brother Dan and brother-in-law Rawson Lister of Lloydminster, brother-in law Dr Jim (Linda) Rogers, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Wales, Australia and across Canada. Along with his wife Jean, he is survived by sons Tony (Maddy) Saviskas and grandchildren Corey (Denise), Jody (Chris) and Kelsey; Mike (Lorraine) Saviskas and granddaughter Xiomara (Gus); daughters Anne (Bert) Johnson and granddaughters Kimberley and Kacie; daughter Mary Brandt and grandsons Lee and Bart, and six great grandchildren. Thank you to the staff of Calgary Home Care, We Care, Sarcee Hospice and our very special angel Florence, for all of the support and assistance provided to us throughout Dick’s illness. At Dick’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Dick’s Life held in Lloydminster, AB on Friday, April 29, 2005.
