May Sweeting

Obituary of May Sweeting

May Sweeting of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the age of 89 years with her adoring family at her side. May was born in 1916 in County Durham, England and immigrated to Canada in 1952. She worked for many years at the Salvation Army Children’s Village in Calgary and is fondly remembered by the children whose lives she touched. May had a gift for making friends and keeping them for life. The daughter of a Methodist minister and Labour M.P. James Dixon Murray, May’s faith was a source of strength and inspiration to her throughout the years. Above all else, May was the ultimate Mom and Nana, supremely happy when all her “chicks” were by her side. May was predeceased by her husband Tom, her sister Louie, and her granddaughter, Carol Claassen. May will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dorothy (Claus) Claassen, Eileen (Shimon) Ailon and Audrey (John) Gordon; by her grandchildren, Laura (Douglas) Strong, Tamir, Jonathan and Evan Ailon, Sara and Jesse Gordon, and by her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kirsten, Kayla, Mac and Aliya Strong. She will be sadly missed by her sister Sara (Betty) Duffy, nephew Jim Duffy, niece Daphne Moug, and her nephew Douglas Sweeting all of England, as well as by her many friends. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
