Obituary of Julia Simon

Mrs. Julia (Julie) Simon, beloved wife of Mr. Joseph Simon of Calgary, passed away on April 12, 2005 at the age of 76 years. Julia was born on October 19, 1928 in Kosice (Kassa) Slovakia. Educated as a professional seamstress, she worked in childcare development as a kindergarten teacher before leaving her homeland as a refugee to Stutgaard, Germany for one year. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 to Lethbridge, AB and was employed as a Homecare Provider until 1953 when she met Joseph Simon. They were wed on November 7, 1953. For sixteen years she worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the Drapery department until becoming a Private Consultant and Designer for the Jaywin Co. where she designed drapes for showhomes, movie sets and custom orders for thirty-one years from 1971 – 2002. In 1976, Julie and Joe became legal guardians for Joseph’s brother’s children, thereby blessing them with a family to raise and nurture. Julie is lovingly remembered by her husband of fifty-one years, Joseph, and the children they raised and loved with all their heart, Steve Kovacs of Portland, OR and Julie (Gizike) Makarowsky of Tualatin, OR. Julie will also sadly be missed by her sister Erzsi of Slovakia, as well as her dearest friends and extended family, Gabriella Liszka and Ilona Nagy who were touched and graced by her will and inner beauty. She was predeceased by her four brothers Pista, Joska, Feri and Laci as well as her sister Manyi. ” We will all miss her and hold her in our hearts forever.” Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Monday April 18, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
