Obituary of Dorothy Chalmers

After 85 wonderful years, Dorothy Chalmers of Calgary passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Sarcee Hospice. Dorothy was born in Glasgow, Scotland and brought up in Giffnock. During the Second World War, while Dorothy volunteered as a nurse, her late and beloved husband Charles David “Chick” served the entire war with the British Eighth Army. After the war, the family emigrated to Perth, Australia, returning to Glasgow after five happy years. Chick and Dorothy moved to North Berwick, Scotland in 1974 where Chick eventually passed away in 1986. In 1993, Dorothy moved to Calgary from Scotland to be with her son Stuart, his wife Anne and their children, Claire, David, Peter, and Andrew. She was made to feel very welcome in Calgary by the Lakeview community, especially the United Church and the Community Bridge Club. Dorothy had a passion for life, was always so positive and did not ask for much. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother. She valued and loved all her friends. Dorothy was very fond of her two nephews, Peter Juliebo of Edmonton, AB and Neil MacKenzie of Glasgow. Her two loving sisters, Marguerite and Janette, predeceased her. “We will miss you, Dorothy.” A Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 – 63rd Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m with the Rev. Diane Strickland, Presider. A Memorial Service will also be held in North Berwick, Scotland on Saturday, May 7, 2005 with the Rev. Milton Cashman, Presider.
