Obituary of Roger Joseph Rector

Roger Rector, cherished husband and best friend of Roberta (Bobbi) of Wizard Lake, AB, formerly a long-time resident of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton on Sunday, April 10, 2005, following a hard-fought battle against cancer, at the age of 65 years. Roger was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB where he also attended St. Paul’s school. He graduated from the U of M with a Masters of Science in Geology and moved to Edmonton, AB in 1964 where he joined Chevron. There he met Bobbi and they were married on May 21, 1966. Roger received a PhD in Geology from McMaster University in Hamilton, ON as well as a diploma in Management from MIT in Boston, MS. He began his career with Gulf Canada Resources in 1970. During his twenty-five years with Gulf, he served in various capacities including VP Exploration, VP Corporate Acquisition and Marketing and VP International Development and Exploration. Following retirement from Gulf in 1995, he set up an independent consulting practice primarily with Glencoe Resources as well as serving on the Board of Directors for Globex Resources. Roger was involved with various community activities in Lake Bonavista, including the establishment of the Lake Bonavista Recreation Centre. He had also been active with Minor Soccer as a coach with the Celtic Soccer Association, and as a Director of the Calgary Minor Soccer Association during the 1980’s. Fulfilling his retirement dreams, Roger spent part of the winter months with Bobbi at their home in Peoria, AZ. He enjoyed his various activities in the community there and his association with the Kiwanis Club of Sun City. Besides his loving wife Bobbi, Roger is survived by his children, Kevin and Kelly Rector, Theresa Rector, Lori and Vincent Beaulieu; grandchildren, Amanda Butler, Jordan and Thomas Beaulieu, Joshua, Zachary and Ethan Rector; mother Mary Rektor; brothers, Edward and Brian Rector; aunts, Vera Derenchuk and Anne and Jerry Sopuck; and many cousins. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, April 18, 2005 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
