Obituary of Donald James McEachern

Donald James McEachern, beloved husband of Jeanette McEachern of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Donald was born on August 20, 1925 in Red Deer, AB and grew up on a farm nearby. He finished High School in Red Deer, joined the army in 1943 and was discharged after twenty-six months of service. Don graduated as a Chemical Engineer at the University of Alberta in 1948. He joined Imperial Oil in 1948, working in Turner Valley. Don married Jeanette in 1952 and they had three children. They lived together in Devon, Calgary, Edmonton and New York (Exxon) over the course of his many years working for Imperial Oil until his retirement in 1982 as the Project Engineering Manager. After retiring, Donald worked in Malyasia over the years from 1984 to 1988 for Petronas, the National Oil Company. Don returned to Canada to work for Suncor Energy in Fort McMurray, AB as a Project Manager until 1991. Don was active in the Kiwanis Club and first joined the club in Fort McMurray in 1990 and was currently active in the Calgary Downtown Kiwanis Club at the Board Level. Some of his favourite activities were skiing, gardening and travel. Besides his loving wife, Donald is survived by his children, Barbara in Vancouver, BC, Jane in Calgary and James and his wife Sue, also in Calgary. He is also survived by his grandchildren Victoria (19), Michael (13), Connor (12), Heather (12), Ross (12), and Donny (10); and his brother Ernest McEachern of Red Deer, as well as many cousins.
