Obituary of Holland Pembroke Lecky
Holland Pembroke Lecky, beloved husband of Irene of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at the age of 81 years.
Holland was born on May 11, 1923 in Sydenham, England. On August 19, 1941, he joined the Royal Air Force, Air Sea Rescue Branch, enlisting in Cardington, Bedford and training at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He immigrated to Calgary on May 8, 1965, working at Amoco Petroleum in the payroll department until 1982 when he took early retirement. Holland joined the Corps of Commissionaires and was there from 1982 to 1984. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #264, since 1968. The game of crib was one of his passions and he was Treasurer of the Crib Club for six years. Considered a true gentleman, Holland was very kind and thoughtful, yet loved to joke. He also loved to travel to various parts of the world.
Besides his loving wife Irene, Holland will be remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Garry Archibald; his stepchildren, Carolyn (Ron) Rousseau, Deborah (Kevin) Russell and Lorne (Lonny) Olsen; grandchildren, Andrew (Melanie), Alan (Sara), Alisa, Travis, Jared, Chad, Ashley, Natalie, Martin, Greg, and Tom; and great-grandchildren, Mikaila, Sierra and David. He is survived by his brother Ian and sister Faith. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, in 1979.
