Obituary of Grace Eleanor McAndrew

Our beloved mother, nana, sister and friend, Grace Eleanor McAndrew of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the age of 78 years. A descendant of Alberta pioneers, Eleanor was a native Calgarian for seventy-eight years. Raised on a farm east of Calgary, Eleanor helped by cooking for the threshing crews, canning the garden produce and working, at times, in the fields. Eleanor graduated Central High School in Calgary and then attended the Henderson Business College where she met her husband, Doug. They were married on January 24, 1946 and moved to Blairmore, AB. The family returned to Calgary in 1948 where they raised their four children. Eleanor will be remembered for her love of family, her wonderful circle of friends and her fun and mischievous nature. She played cribbage, knitted and crocheted beautifully, enjoyed theatre, followed chuckwagon racing faithfully, loved to camp in K-country with her family, took pride in her cooking, and loved to organize social events. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Karen (Tony) Wheeler, Pat (Fred) Graham, and Ann, as well as son Kelly. Her pride and joy were her granddaughters, Shannon (Reece) Harris, Kim, and Jessie; her grandsons, Chris, Jason, and Mike; as well as her first great-grandchild Ayla. Eleanor is also survived by her sister Laureen McLauchlin; and cousin Jack McComb. A Celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, April 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the AgapÚ Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 Telephone: (403) 282-6588.
