Obituary of Horst Hassel

Horst Hassel, beloved husband of Ranay Hassel of Calgary, passed away suddenly at home, on Monday, April 4, 2005 at the age of 62 years. Horst was born February 1, 1943 in Zolldorf, Czechoslovakia. He moved with his family to Canada in 1953. Horst was a Journeyman Electrician through IBEW Local 254 Calgary. He proudly worked on the Great Canadian Oil Sands, known now as Suncor. He worked on numerous other Oil and Gas Projects throughout Western Canada and NWT. He married his wife Ranay on August 5, 1967 in Calgary and when he was not out of town working he spent his time raising their children, and volunteering as Scout Leader in the 127 Scout Troup. He retired ten years ago where he enjoyed his days working on home projects and odd jobs. Horst was gifted in his ability to build or repair anything without the aid of manuals. He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Ranay; and his children Michael, Elizabeth and Steven. He is also survived by a sister Gertrude and brother-in-law Henry Gretzinger of Windermere, BC; brothers, Ray of Maple Ridge B.C; Gernot and Egon Hassel of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Josef in 1953 and mother Aurelle in 1992. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, April 7, 2005 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street and Northmount Drive N.W.) on Friday, April 8, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev.
