Obituary of Frank John Dickinson
DICKINSON, Frank John – “Sonny” – (1924 – 2005) who cherished every day and anticipated the next, passed away on Saturday, April 2nd. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Doris; his children Danny (Christine), Dolaine (Greg), Barb, Dean and Dayna; and grandchildren, Jon, Drew, Chris, Ashley, Mac, Cede, and Mil. He was predeceased by his father George, mother Nina, sister Lois, and first wife Margaret.
Sonny was born and raised in Cranbrook, BC. He began his long career with the Canadian Pacific Railway starting as a messenger in 1939. Sonny served with the RCNVR during WWII, and returned to the railway in 1944. Dedicated and faithful service brought advancement to management positions with progressive moves to Nelson, BC, Vancouver, BC, Calgary, AB, and Winnipeg, MB. Sonny retired to Calgary in 1984, to spend more time with his family. He enjoyed mornings at the gym, coffee with his buddies and woodworking in his shop.
A wise and trusted counselor, Sonny gave generously of his time, love, and compassion to all who sought his guidance and……..sometimes to those who didn’t. He believed in the goodness of the heart, the strength of the soul and the unwavering love of family and friends.
A Celebration of Sonny’s life will take place at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
