Obituary
Obituary of Robert James Boon
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) James Boon of Calgary on Thursday, March 24, 2005 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Bob’s loving wife and soul mate JoAnne was always by his side with tender loving care and encouragement. Bob also leaves behind two daughters, Karen (Doug Follett), Carol Ann (Brian) Maytum and son, Derek, as well as nine grandchildren, James, William and Christopher Follett, Katelyn and Alexander James (A.J.) Maytum, Micheal and Ashley Boon Burkhart, Amy Cote and Kirsten Boon. Also mourning his passing are his brother Edward (Ted, wife Virginia) and nieces Natalie and Trisha from Mississauga, ON as well as brother Bill’s wife, Diane, and niece Laurie (Russell) Bradford. Bob was predeceased by his mother Sadie, father Alec and younger brother Bill Boon.
Bob enjoyed and was proud of his education at the University of Los Angeles. He was pledged to the Phi Delta Gamma fraternity – UCLA 1954 and Calgary 1994. A proud Calgarian and entrepreneur, Bob had a very successful career in the earth moving business. He worked his way up to President of Standard General Construction at a very early age and then created Roadway Construction, a prominent player in the booming Calgary economy. He was active in Roadbuilders and the Urban Development Institute of Calgary. Bob retired from Roadway two years ago with plans for years of relaxation, enjoying life with JoAnne, his children, his grandchildren and many friends. He wanted time for his artwork, his books, his gardening and to enjoy his homes in Calgary and Rancho Mirage. Bob’s zest for life and his participation in countless leisure and business activities that challenged him on a daily basis kept his mind sharp to the end. Bob touched many people in many ways by his friendship, generosity, his sense of humour and his compassion. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, his golfing foursome and business associates.
