Obituary of Helen Ann Scatterty

Helen Ann Scatterty, beloved wife of Charles Scatterty, of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the age of 70 years. Helen was born on December 24, 1934 in Boyndie, Banffshire Scotland and attended Banff Academy in Banff, Scotland. She met Charles in July 1955 in Laurencekirk, Scotland and they were married in 1956. Helen, Charles and Moira immigrated to Canada in 1958. They lived on various farms in Southern Alberta, and eventually settled in Airdrie in 1962 where they would raise their family. They lived in Willow Springs Ranch until 1967, then onto Maffei Farms where Charles was Manager until 1987. For seven years they managed a farm in Fort St. John, BC. In 1996 they moved to Calgary to be closer to their family. Helen had a wide variety of interests which included gardening, sewing, baking, crafts, reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. She spent many hours in her vegetable gardens as well as her flower and rose beds. Helen loved to entertain and chat with friends. When living in Airdrie, she was a Sunday School teacher at the United Church, an avid bowler and real estate agent. Helen’s greatest joy was her family. She will live forever in the hearts of her husband Charles of forty-nine years; her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Moira and Larry Hoffert, Linda and Gordon Werner and Eileen; four cherished grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Sarah, and Steven. Helen is survived by three brothers and two sisters-in law, Eric and Wilma Gordon, Alexander and Christine Gordon, Robert Gordon as well as numerous nieces and nephews all in Scotland. Helen was predeceased by her parents, David and Anna; sisters, Edith and Jean; and brothers, William, Ian, and Alistair. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park.
