Obituary of Grant Leslie Fisher

Grant Fisher, beloved husband of Deanna Fisher and loving father to Kori and Craig, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 24, 2005, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Grant was born on November 4, 1937 in Manson, MB. His family moved to Moosomin, SK when he was twelve. In his youth, Grant was an avid participant in many sports including hockey, football and baseball. He took up golf as a teenager and continued to play avidly until the time of his passing. Following his graduation from Moosomin Collegiate in 1955, Grant worked prior to attending the University of Saskatchewan, where he studied Engineering. In 1964, he moved to Calgary where he met his future wife, Deanna Mackie. In 1967, Grant and Deanna were married and Grant accepted a position with the ATCO Group of Companies. While at ATCO, Grant particularly enjoyed his Project Management roles which took him many different places in the United States and Europe. Following his thirty-two year career with ATCO, Grant retired in 1999 and turned his focus to the golf course. Grant was a member at the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club, where he enjoyed countless rounds with the many friends he had made over the years. Throughout his life, Grant was a devoted husband and father. He encouraged his children to pursue any activities they desired and made many sacrifices to allow them to do so. Grant was an active volunteer with several youth sport groups in Calgary. He served as a Director with the Calgary Buffalo Hockey Association and devoted much of his time to many minor hockey and youth baseball teams. Besides his loving wife and children, Grant will be deeply missed by his brother Bev Fisher (Faye) of Winnipeg, MB; his sister Sharron Esch (Don) of Regina, SK; his nephew Brent Fisher (Terri and daughters Marissa and Delaney) of Edmonton, AB; his niece Simone Campbell of Leduc, AB; his aunts and uncles, Verna and Art Fruin of Moosomin, SK; Don Fisher (Betty) of Nampa, ID; and Frances Barron of Portage La Prairie, MB. Grant was also dearly loved by the Mackie family, including his mother-in-law Dorothy and brothers and sisters-in-law Doug, Sandra, Jim and Fran and their families. Grant was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Norma, his father-in-law, Bill Mackie, and his sister-in-law, Linda Mackie. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
