Obituary of Norman Stewart Barker

Stewart Barker, beloved husband of Elizabeth Barker of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2005 after a lengthy illness at the age of 86 years. A well-respected local businessman, Stu established and built Primco (PWL) Ltd. into a successful wholesale building supply company across western Canada. He was well known for his volunteer contributions within the community, which included: Past President of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, Past President and Life Member of the Kinsmen Club of Calgary, Past President of the Calgary Flying Club, Past President of the Royal Canadian Flying Clubs Assn., former Board Member of the Calgary Airport Authority, and a member of the Concord Lodge. Many happy weekends were spent with friends at Bragg Creek, and Dad’s favourite hobbies included his love of miniature donkeys and trains. He will be remembered for great stories and an irreverent sense of humour. “Goddammit, I said WIDE corners!” Celebrating his memory will be: his son Larry (Marion), grandsons, Scott (Janice) and Greg of Burlington, ON; son Jay D. (Penny) and grandchildren Erica and Reese of Cochrane, AB; and daughter Meg Bures (Gord) of Calgary. In keeping with Dad’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
