Obituary of Sun Walk

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wesley James Sun Walk on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the age of 34 years. Wesley was born on June 14, 1970 in Bassano, AB. He attended Crowfoot School and in later years he completed his grade twelve education at Viscount Bennet College and received his High School Diploma. He furthered his studies at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, taking one and a half years of Petroleum Engineering training and working in the Seismic Drilling industry for many years. Wesley strongly believed in the Traditional way of life, and shared his belief through his singing and dancing. As a child, he was a Traditional Dancer and later sang with the Eagle Society Drum Group alongside his father, Robert Sun Walk, his uncles and his brothers, as well as with other drum groups including the Siksika Ramblers and Little Axe. Wesley also enjoyed track and field as well as volleyball. Wesley leaves to mourn his three daughters whom he cherished, Cecelia Crow Chief, Ashley Sun Walk and Raven Sun Walk (O’Reiley). He is also survived by his mother Roslyn Wolf Leg and his stepmother Florence (Tama) Sun Walk. He will be sadly missed by his siblings and their spouses, Trent (Elaine), Renate (Alfred), Troy (Jocelyn), June, Sheldon (Charmaine), Wynette (Lee), Roberta; and his half-sister Jennifer (Archie) Little Light; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; his Godchild Tyrine John Sun Walk; his close special cousin, Robert Calf Jr.; and his special close friend Tracey (Holly) Running Rabbit. Wesley also leaves to mourn, his aunts Dorothy (Albert) Owl Child, Clara (Frank) Big Tobacco, Shirley Wolf Leg, Andrea Wolf Leg, and Ruth (Francis) Scalplock; along with many other friends and cousins. Wesley’s extended families include the Calfs, Calf Robes, White Mans, Many Bears, Scalplocks, Wolf Legs, Poor Eagles, White Eagles, White Elks, Many Shots, Bear Shirts, Many Fires, Solways, Sitting Eagles and Pards. The family apologizes for anyone that they may have missed. Wesley was predeceased by his father Robert Sun Walk, his wife Fayanne Crow Chief; his grandparents Henry and Clara Sun Walk and Richard and Clara Wolf Leg; his uncles, Leo Sun Walk, Garry Sun Walk, and Jerome Wolf Leg; and his aunts, Ruby Sun Walk, Pauline Sun Walk, and Ramona Sun Walk. Wesley will be remembered for his kind and generous nature, his sense of humour and his gentle ways. Wake Services will be held at Sister Celine Parish Hall (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, March 14, 2005 beginning at 5:00 p.m. for family and at 7:00 p.m. for friends and public. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ian GagnÚ Presider.
