Obituary
Obituary of Robert Arthur Homme
Bob passed away quietly at his home on Friday evening, March 11, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his beloved wife Sheila at his side.
Bob was born in Regina, SK on December 27, 1945 and moved to Calgary with his parents in the spring of 1960, where he attended Elboya Junior High School and Henry Wise Wood High School.
Bob commenced engineering studies at the University of Calgary and transferred to the University of Alberta, where he received his BSc. in Engineering in 1967 and his L.L.B. in 1970. In 1970 Bob moved back to Calgary, articled to Vallance & Co and then moved to the Fenerty McGillivray firm where he was an Associate for two years. In 1973 Bob became a Founding Partner of Woods Homme, which ultimately became part of the Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer firm in 1984, where Bob was a Partner until his health failed in the summer of 2004. Bob was a lifelong student of the law and specialized in all facets of Real Estate and Development law, receiving local and national recognition in his field, including recognition as Queen’s Counsel.
Bob was very active in the legal profession over the years, teaching at Bar Admission and Continuing Education courses and participating in and moderating numerous panels on current real estate and development issues. He also had an abiding interest in politics and the political process and would, if given the opportunity, talk politics for hours. His reputation as a skilled practitioner was overshadowed only by his dedication to selflessly serving the needs of his clients. He always had time for other people, made a great contribution to the community and will be missed by many.
Bob is survived by his sons, Matthew and McDonald (“Mac”); his step-son Aaron; his step-daughter Neile; and his wife Sheila. He was predeceased by his father Art Homme, mother Viola, and sister Carol.
A Gathering of friends and family will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2005 at The Glencoe Club to celebrate Bob’s life.
