Obituary of Clarence Jacob Deines

Clarence Jacob Deines, beloved husband of Muriel Deines of Calgary, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the age of 88 years. The oldest of eleven children, Clarence was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He married Muriel Barnes in 1942 at her brother’s farm in Springbank. Clarence served overseas during World War II with the Fort Gary Horse of Winnipeg, a Tank Unit. On returning to Calgary he finished high school and then attended the U of A, graduating with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He worked for Texaco Exploration for thirty years. He loved camping and fishing and spent his happiest times in the mountains with his family. His other hobbies were building model airplanes and silversmithing. Upon retirement Clarence took up beekeeping and for twenty years was well-known for the excellent quality of his honey. Clarence is survived by his wife Muriel; a son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Velma Deines of Nanaimo, BC; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Pat Cummins of Sundre, AB; four grandchildren, David (Michelle) Deines of Victoria, BC, Michael Deines of Vancouver, BC, Sara (Travis) Finlayson of Vermilion, AB, and Steven Cummins of Calgary; as well as two brothers, six sisters and many nieces and nephews. Clarence was much-loved and will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
