Obituary of John Walter Reid

John Walter (Jack) Reid, beloved husband of Louise of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Jack was born in Carmichael, SK and raised in Maple Creek where he developed his life-long love of music (especially jazz) and hockey. He moved to Calgary at the age of 16 years and began working for Kleen Ltd. while studying accounting. He was President and primary shareholder of the company before the age of 30 years. During this time he was very active in the Jaycees, serving as president. From 1965 to 1986, the family lived in Priddis where they participated in Arabian horse shows and enjoyed riding, working, and sharing good times with their Priddis neighbours. After moving back to Calgary, Jack and Louise enjoyed golfing at the Earl Grey Golf Club until 2003, when Jack was slowed down by his loss of sight. Besides his beloved wife Louise, Jack is survived by his son Rick Reid of Vancouver, BC, daughter and son-in-law Diane and Vern Hambling of High River, son and son-in-law Doug Reid and Andrew Knox of Santa Barbara, CA., sister-in-law Betty Hossack of Priddis, and sister-in-law Maryon Robertson of Calgary. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ryan Hambling, Leanne (Verner) Habraken, Ashley Hambling, Stephanie Hambling, Wallis Moore Reid, Jackson Knox-Reid and Caroline Knox-Reid. Jack was predeceased by his sister Margaret East; brother-in-law Charles East; brother-in-law Don Hossack; and daughter-in-law Caroline Moore. A Memorial Service will be held at Red Deer Lake United Church (West on Highway #22x past Spruce Meadows) on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce R. Sheasby officiating.
