Obituary of James G. Graham

James Graham of Calgary passed away on Friday, March 4, 2005 at the age of 65 years. Born on February 14, 1940 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Jim grew up in a wartime environment and had the greatest admiration for Canadians. He was educated in Edinburgh at Edinburgh Academy, Clifton Hall and Fetes College and received the Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award in 1957. He was an Oat Miller and Grain Merchant. Jim immigrated to Canada on June 3, 1964. He worked for CNR, Miracle Feeds, Monsanto, and Uniroyal Chemical, as a commissioned salesman, and the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires since 1998. Jim was the president of the Calgary Rugby Union 1981, 1982, and 1983 and with the help of his executive negotiated the lease of Kingsland Rugby Park with the City of Calgary. In 1999, Jim was awarded a Life Membership in the Calgary Rugby Union for services rendered. Jim was the President of ACT in 1995. Jim served on the Executive of Branch 285 of the Royal Canadian Legion, in 1993, 2002, and 2003. Thanks for a grand life! Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Laryssa and Brian Rainboth; his grandson Benjamin all of Port Moody, BC; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Roy Graham and Sandy and Rosemary Graham and family, all of Scotland; a sister and brother-in-law Rhona and Jim Smith and family of England; and Margot Kruger “Jim’s best friend for many years.” A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 285 (9202 Horton Road S.W.) on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
