Obituary of Laureen Draper

Laurie, beloved wife of Norman, mother of David and Paul (Carolyn), passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2005 after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. Laurie is also survived by her two grandchildren; her brother-in-law Ted Dougherty; and three nieces. Laurie was predeceased by her only sister Audrey in 2001. Born in Edmonton, Laurie lived in several Alberta locations before moving to Calgary in 1950. She graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1954. Following her marriage in 1955, she resided in several Canadian and U.S. cities, finally returning to Calgary in 1971. She maintained an active community life and was a volunteer during the 1988 Winter Olympics and later for the City of Calgary, the Creative Living section of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede and the Salvation Army. The family wishes to express special thanks to individuals who made a special contribution to her well-being during her difficult struggle: Dr. Patricia Bryden, Dr. Mark Webster, Ms. Cindy Lakusta, the Home Care organization, and the nursing staff of Unit 47, Rockyview Hospital, all of whom provided comforting and compassionate palliative care.
