Margaret Whitmore

Obituary of Margaret Lorraine Whitmore

A grand lady respected for her intellect, love of family and sense of style, Margaret Whitmore passed away March 1, 2005 in a gracious manner to join the “love of her life”, Wally Whitmore. She will be missed by her children, Barry Whitmore of Regina, daughter Leanne Pederson of Calgary; and son-in-law Harvey, extended family and dog Brady. Nana was so proud of her musical grandsons, David, Brad, Dan and Wade. She loved the dinners with her extended family Ted and Kathy Gilson and Eric and Susan Dugas. “Nana’s” pride and joy were her three little great-granddaughters, Octovia, Sophie and Elena. Growing up in Melville, SK, Marg worked in a variety of professional offices until she was selected by a special Order in Council to serve as private secretary to the Premier of Saskatchewan. She served in this prestigious position until her marriage to Wally in 1940. She later became secretary to the Head of School Libraries where she indulged in her love of reading. Upon retirement, Wally and Marg spent summers golfing at their cottage at Katepwa Beach, SK. and winters in New Mexico. In 1996, she moved to Calgary where she resided at Canyon Meadows Retirement and Lake Bonavista Village. Marg enjoyed an incredibly long life filled with wit, humour and family. Special thanks to her sister-in-law Doris Whitmore for those daily chats, to Sally Pederson for her kind attention and to Cathy O’Connor for her support. A celebration of Marg’s life will be held at Deer Park United Church (77 Deer Point Road S.E.) on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jennifer Ferguson officiating.
