Obituary of Earl Joseph Salterio

Earl Joseph Salterio, F.C.N.A., F.C.N.R.S., Knight of St. Eligius, Knight of Columbus Fourth Degree, and beloved husband of Esther Salterio of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the age of 70 years. Earl was born in Saint John, NB on May 26, 1934. He graduated from St. Vincent’s Boys High School, later attending St. Thomas University in Chatham, prior to joining The Bank of Nova Scotia in Fredericton in 1961. He served in various branches in New Brunswick and Calgary before retiring on February 28, 1993. Earl was very active in the hobby of numismatics and received numerous prestigious awards. A devoted Roman Catholic, he was very active in the Diocese of Calgary, having served on the Bishop’s Diocesan Finance Council and the Board of the Priest’s Retirement Residence. Earl served his Parish of Sacred Heart as Eucharistic Minister and in the capacity of Acolyte/Sacristan at parish funerals. Earl will be sadly missed by his friends, associates and colleagues in banking, numismatics, fraternal and Church circles. Earl will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Steven Earl and Leslie of Kingston, ON and John Paul and Christine of Halifax, NS; together with his loving grandchildren Alexander Leo of Kingston and Nicholas Reynold of Halifax. His sister Florence Hamrick of Texas also survives Earl along with many cousins in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the United States. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Earl Reginald and Rosamond Veronica (nee Matthews) Salterio of Saint John, NB. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, March 4, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Further services will follow in Saint John, NB prior to inurnment in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.
