Obituary of Ivan Gray

Ivan Ramsay (Dooley) Gray of Calgary, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the age of 80 years, surrounded by the love of his family, after a short and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Ivan was born on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1925 to Hamiota, Manitoba pioneers Harry Hagart and Mene Noble Proctor Gray. Ivan was extremely proud of his military service. He took great pride in sharing his experiences with friends and family, especially with his children and grandchildren. Ivan will be remembered always by his daughter and son-in-law, Carolin and Malcolm Crofts of Lake Louise and his son and daughter-in-law Glen and Carolyn Gray of Calgary, his grandchildren, Michael and his wife Nichola, Jennifer, Ryan, Breelyn and Caitlyn. Dooley was predeceased by his wife Marlene in 1998. He was a special “Dad” and “Dad-in-law” to his step-daughter Tricia Young and her husband Cinco of Maui, Hawaii and Grandpa-Dooley to their children Levi and Bailey. He is also survived by Marlene’s other two children Danny Cameron of Minnesota USA and Debbie Gales of Calgary and their families. Dooley will also be lovingly remembered by Marlene’s mother Mrs. Helen Perroud, and her sisters and brother-in-laws Doreen and Norm Labossier and Doris and Rolly Asselin all of Manitoba. Ivan was also predeceased by his first wife Vina in 2000. He will be lovingly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law Fern and Cam Shankland and their daughters Kluane and Grant Claitel and Stacey Shankland. Ivan is survived by his beloved sister Eleanor Kent and her daughter Donna, sister-in-law Mrs. Edna (Hugh) Gray and her son Barry, wife Diane and their daughter Erin, a niece Gloria Evanoff all of Victoria; nephews Bobby and Dawn Hurst of Parksville and Glenn Hurst of Mission, B.C, sister-in-law Mrs. Gwen (Ronald) Gray and her sons Garry and Randy of Toronto, nephew Alan Gray of Texas and niece Doreen Elms and her family of Ft. Pierce, Florida. A Celebration of Ivan’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Marilyn Evans of McDougal United Church officiating. Graveside Service will take place in Hamiota, Manitoba at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
