Obituary of Zenon Herasymowych

With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Zeno Herasymowych. He went peacefully in the presence of his family to join the love of his life Mary on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the age of 81 years. Zeno was born in the Ukraine. He studied Journalism before the outbreak of World War II. He met and married his wife Mary in Germany, with whom he shared fifty-eight years of married life. Zeno immigrated to Canada in 1948 and in 1949 Mary and his daughter Sonia came to join him in Timmins, ON. He later worked in Port Radium, NWT, then with Eldorado Mining and Refining in Uranium City and Eldorado, SK. He spent many happy years in the North where he loved to fish, and sing baritone with his friends. In 1965, he moved to Saskatoon, SK to work with the Potash Company of America/RioAlgom until his retirement in 1988. Zeno was a lifelong learner, avid reader, and excellent speaker, as he was fluent in six languages. For many years he was active in the Ukrainian National Organization, and was the host of a Canadian Ukrainian program on CFCL in Timmins, ON. At the age of eighty he discovered the joy of re-writing his poems and essays on the computer and fulfilled a lifelong dream of publishing a book of poetry in Ukrainian called “Salvo for the Soul”. He was a loving husband, father, and a deeply proud grandfather, who will be missed by both family and friends. Zeno is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Sonia and Sergio, and Marilyn and Henry; and his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Andrea. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2003. Funeral Services will be held at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK) on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Vladimir Mudri officiating.
