Obituary of Avelina Kowal
Avelina Kowal (nee Bertoia) of Airdrie passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the age of 65 years.
Avelina was born on March 10, 1939 in Baldwinton, SK and married Murray Kowal in Edmonton on October 12, 1963. They lived and worked in Edmonton until coming to Airdrie in 1972 where they began their own horse transport business. Following the passing of Murray in November of 1990, Avelina retired. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, and spending time with family and friends. Hockey was her favourite spectator sport and she spent the better part of the 1990’s involved in thoroughbred horse racing.
Avelina is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Stacy Kowal, and her daughter Shelly Kowal, all of Airdrie. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Louise (Laverne) Herriman of Longview, AB, Rita (Angelo) DeCosta of Calgary, Oswald (Mary) Bertoia, Reno Bertoia, Silvio (Gail) Bertoia, Avelino (Madeline) Bertoia, Dele Bertoia, all of Baldwinton, SK, Leo (Charlotte) Bertoia of High River, AB, and Loretta Bertoia of Edmonton, AB; brothers-in-law, Mike Kowal of Whitehorse, and John (Eleanor) Kowal of Stony Plain; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Murray; parents, Elsie and Angelo; mother and father-in-law, Katherine and Frank Kowal; sister-in-law Shirley Bertoia, and sister and brother-in-law Bertha and Paul Walsh.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie) on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie) on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
