Obituary of Many Guns

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Todd Many Guns. Todd returned to the Creator on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the age of 30 years. Todd was born in Calgary and spent the majority of his life living at the Siksika Nation. He attended Arrowwood and Strathmore Schools. Todd was raised primarily by his treasured grandparents, Cecile and the late Matthew Many Guns. Todd was very close with both of his grandparents and could often be found at Cecile’s house or on the phone with her. Along with his wife Kelly, Cecile was his greatest source of strength, support, and understanding. Todd was a kind-spirited person, one that would help both family and friends in any way he could. He was generous and eager to help those in need. He liked to cook for family and friends. Todd had a great sense of humour; he was always going out of his way to make people smile and laugh. Throughout the last few years of his life, Todd spent a great deal of time reconciling past mistakes and becoming a better and stronger person. As a father, Todd was both caring and concerned for his children. His oldest son Chris has described him as the “cool dad”, one that can go from playing video games to getting down on the floor and playing cars with Layne. His memory will be kept alive for Layne and Lauren. By far, Todd’s greatest achievement has been the relationship that he has developed and maintained with his children. He adored and loved his children. These are bonds that will not be broken. Todd is survived by his wife Kelly and their five children; Christopher, 14 years, Nathan, 10 years, Cassidy, 6 years, Layne, 2 years, and his newborn daughter Lauren, 1 month. He is also survived by his father Frank Stevens, stepmother Theresa Stevens, and mother Rosaria Wolf Leg. Todd also leaves to mourn his grandmother Cecile Many Guns; his siblings, Nadine Good Eagle, Tara Leigh Low Horn, Tamara Cutter, Ajay Wolf Leg, and Buddy Wolf Leg. Todd will be deeply missed by his aunts and uncles, Fran Wolf Leg (Clarence), Scotty Many Guns (Wanda), Dean Many Guns, Arlene Many Guns (Olin), Aaron Many Guns (Dale), George Many Guns (Colette), Kelly Many Guns, Jackie Stevens (Joyce), and Wally Stevens (Vivian); his great aunt and uncles Cecilia Many Heads, Philip Many Bears, and Albert Many Bears, Clifford Many Guns (Rosaline), Yvonne Black Horse (Jerry), Florence Backfat, Allen Stevens, Michael Stevens, and Walter Stevens (Linda). He will be greatly missed by his cousins, who enjoyed spending time with him. Todd was fortunate to be part of a very large extended family that includes the Many Guns, Stevens, Breaker, Melting Tallow, Fox, Many Bears, Backfat, Yellowfly and Crowfoot, and McMaster families. In addition to his extended family he leaves behind many of his life-long friends. It would be impossible to list all those that cared for Todd and those for whom he cared deeply. Todd was predeceased by his infant son, Justin Many Guns in 1995; his beloved maternal grandfather Matthew Many Guns in 1993; his paternal grandparents, Patrick Stevens in 1972 and Irene Stevens in 1994; great grandparents Lyndon Many Bears in 1955, Dorothy Many Bears in 1964, Josette Many Guns in 1969, Tom Many Guns in 1991 and an uncle Darren Many Guns in 1969; his brothers Sherwin “Jo” Low Horn in 1995 and Torry “Spud” Low Horn in 1998; and great uncle Harry Stevens in 2002. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Dean “Smokey” Many Guns on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
