Obituary of Louis William Stiven

It is with sadness we announce the passing of “Steve” Stiven of Calgary on Monday, February 7, 2005 at the age of 81 years. “Steve” lived in Dunlaoghaire Eire until 1940 when he joined the R.A.F. he returned to England after six years of service, stationed in Burma and India during WW2. He trained in hotel management at the renowned London Savoy Hotel until he immigrated to Canada in 1954, taking the position of General Manager at the Mississauga Golf & Country Club until 1963. Steve brought his family to Calgary where he retired after serving as Secretary Manager of the Calgary Golf & Country Club for twenty five years. Steve was one of the founders of the Golf Club Managers Association of Alberta, he was awarded the Club manager of the year in 1986. Steve served in Rotary and was awarded the Paul Harris International Award for his contribution he also volunteered for thirty years at the Calgary Stampede. The family extends their gratitude to Drs. J Tupper, L. Roode, the nursing staff at units 5 and 8 at the Rockyview and the loving care of the nurses, volunteers and staff at the Sarcee Hospice. Steve will be missed by all who knew him for his great charm and disarming nature. Steve leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-three years Betty and children Peter (Cathie), Paula (Jeff) and Robert (Claudette) ,Grandchildren , Jamie, Taylor, Molly, Liam and Julie all of Calgary. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Walsh of Calgary and brother Patrick Stiven of Los Angeles, CA.
