Obituary of Andy Christie

Andrew Watson Spence Christie, much loved husband of Mary Christie (nee Hooper), passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre with Mary at his side, at the age of 92 years. Andy was born in Arbroath, Scotland on August 31, 1912. He came to Calgary with his family in 1918, and has resided in Calgary since that time. He served in Europe with the Canadian Army as a member of the Canadian 5th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. He saw action in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He was wounded by shrapnel while fighting on the Gothic Line in Italy. Returning to Calgary in late 1945, Andy resumed his position as a driver with the Calgary Transit System. He retired in 1972 as Driver No. 1 after a long career driving street cars, trolley buses, and motor buses. Andy is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary, and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, gentleness, and wonderful sense of humor. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Isobel and Frank Lord; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Lil, Dave and Irma, and Reverend Robert and Edith. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Hunter officiating.
