Obituary of Gordon Martin Stobie

The family regretfully announces the peaceful passing of Gordon Martin Stobie of Calgary on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at the age of 69 years. Born in Edmonton, AB, Gord was the only child of Clara and Andrew Stobie. He spent most of his life in Calgary attending Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Boys schools. Geology and Education degrees were obtained at both the University of Idaho and the University of Calgary. Gord embarked on a distinguished and rewarding Teaching and Administrative career with the Calgary Catholic School District, retiring in 1991 after thirty-four years. Dad loved the outdoors, especially his cabin in Kaslo, BC, his beloved fishing boat, family, colleagues and friends. He was always a patient, caring husband, dad, father-in-law, Grandpa, mentor and friend. Gord had a one of a kind sense of humour that will live on in the memories of all who knew him. Gord will be forever remembered by his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Stobie; daughter Vicki (Craig) Fluker; and Jim (Wendy) Stobie. Gordon loved being a grandfather and he treasured his time with Janessa, Josh, and Marissa Fluker. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Julian Studden, Presider.
