Dewey Grant

Obituary of Dewey Lester Grant

Dewey Lester Grant, B.Sc., C.A. of Calgary peacefully returned to God on Sunday, January 30, 2005, after a brief but courageous battle with lymphoma. Dewey was born on November 25, 1928 in Windsor, ON. He moved to Calgary in 1995. Dewey was very kind and loving, quick to help anyone. He was active his entire life and thoroughly enjoyed working. In the 1960’s, while raising his family, he worked during the day and studied in the evenings. In November 2003, Dewey became a “Life Member” of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He retired as a Faculty Member of the School of Business at St. Clair College in Windsor, where he also served as Dean of the School of Business. Dewey was happiest when teaching or helping the students. In Calgary, Dewey was active as a Heritage Park volunteer and welcomed visitors while dressed in period costume. He was Treasurer for the Canadian Condominium Institute – Calgary. In 2002, he received the “Distinguished Service Award”. Dewey was a volunteer on the Promotion Committee of the Calgary Stampede and was a “batter-boy” for pancake breakfasts. He was the Financial Officer for his church, Community of Christ, and a Board Member for the Hills of Peace Campground, a place that had a special meaning to him. Dewey remained active, walking Wylie-Joe twice daily and skating twice weekly with the Optimist Senior Skaters. A wonderful father, Dewey is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Kelly Grant of Calgary, AB and Sandie and Gerry Volkes-Hommel of Tecumseh, ON. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Kyle, Chris, Joel and Brian; granddogs Wylie-Joe and Ozzie; former wife Evelyn Grant; sister June Marlowe and her family; and “just like family” friends, Dennis Myers, Shelly Norris and family; Sandy Jensen and family, and Tony. He was predeceased by his parents Laura (Risler) Grant and Lester Grant; his brother Gordon Grant; and his sister Beverly (Grant) Birks. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Dewey’s Life will be held at Community of Christ (6415 Ranchview Drive N.W.) on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
