Obituary of Adelaide Dewhirst

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Adelaide “June” Dewhirst (nee Price) on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the age of 99 years. June was born on February 7, 1905 in Harting, Sussex, England and sailed for Canada in 1923, taking up residence in the Cochrane area and in later years at the Evergreen Manor. She was a lover of animals, especially horses and rode in the Calgary Stampede Parade for over forty years. June made all her own beautiful outfits and modeled her own fashions in “Fashions of Yesteryear”. Her needlework took many awards at exhibitions; she also did a TV commercial for Petro Canada. In former years June lived in the United States where she had many friends and enjoyed many interests, always active and having a sunny outlook on life. June is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, June and Percy Alexander; two sisters, Peg Robbie of Ontario and Bell Thurston of California; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Dorothy Swanson; her son Gayle Dewhirst; daughter-in-law Elva Dewhirst; and grandson Brian Dewhirst; three sisters, Dorrie, Ivy, and Lil; and a brother Norman Price. The family would like to thank the Bethany Harvest Hills staff for their kind and compassionate care. At June’s request a Private Family Service will be held.
