Obituary of Ernest Francis Sissons

Ernest Francis (Ernie) Sissons beloved husband of Mrs. Caryl Sissons of Calgary passed away on Monday, January 24, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Ernie was born in Regina, SK on January 19, 1926 as the oldest of seven children to Claude and Cecila Sissons and moved to West Vancouver, BC in 1937 with his family. He joined the Canadian Merchant Navy in 1944 serving two convoys as a Left Tenant and was the first Wireless Operator in the Canadian Navy. Ernie moved to Calgary in 1948, where he met Caryl Wanner. They were married the following year on June 4, 1949. Ernie began his career in the furniture business when he joined The Heintzman Piano Company. In 1957, he was hired as the Sales Manager for McArthur Fine Furniture. In 1963, Ernie and his wife Caryl purchased the company. Eventually, all three of their children, Michael, Theresa and Ken would become involved with the running of the business. Ernie had a passion for golf and was a member of the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club beginning in 1959. He was Club Champion in 1961 and 1962. He was also a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club. One of Ernie’s golf accomplishments included making the Alberta Senior Willingdon Cup Team in 1982. He was very well known in the community and had a competitive nature, whether it was in business, golf or in life. Honesty was also one of his many attributes. His sense of humor will be long remembered by his family and friends. Besides his loving wife Caryl, Ernie is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael and Ursula of Parksville, BC, Theresa Pound and Ted, Ken and Katherine all of Calgary. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Lisa Morris (Tim), Darin Pound (Ronaele), Robert Pound (Jennifer), Thomas Pound, Emily Sissons, Steven Sissons, Sylvia Sissons, Kimberly Sissons and Kimberly’s mother, Linda Jones. Ernie is further survived by his four great-grandchildren Sophie Morris, Andrew Morris, Carson Pound and Grace Pound; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack Sissons, Donald and Caroline Sissons, David and Lise Sissons and his sister and brother-in-law Claudia and Maurice Adams, his sister-in-law Norma and brother-in-law Doug White.
